Who has the most capable virtual assistant on their team? It’s difficult to say, especially since Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and Google Assistant can all perform similar functions.
Shutting down that voice-activated assistant, for the most part, negates the purpose of having a smart device in the first place. However, there are instances when you might want to turn it off or limit eavesdropping, especially if you’re using a smartphone.
To turn off Google Assistant, go to Google Settings and switch off the phone in the Assistance Devices section, so it won’t show up when you long-press the power button.
- Go to you phone’s Google app and open it.
- At the bottom right, tap [More] > [Settings]
- Tap [Google Assistant].
- Select the [Assistant] option. Then, scroll down to Assistant devices and touch [Phone] or any other device you’ve specified to switch off Google Assistant.
- Toggle off [Google Assistant] by tapping the [Google Assistant] toggle.
